N.O.N.G. or NONG Meals: What are they and what do we offer?

N.O.N.G. is an abbreviation for No Onion No Garlic!

Unfortunately, some people suffer gut or stomach problems including ulcers, heartburn, intestinal inflammation, colitis, or acid reflux.

Fortunately, many doctors and nutritionists recognized that having people not consume onions or garlic, can reduce the problems that they experience.

But don't onions and garlic contain important vitamins and minerals?

Yes, except some people are sensitive to the short-chain carbohydrates that are in onions or garlic. According to accepted information, "..onions and garlic are high in FODMAPs" and for some people are "poorly absorbed by the small intestine. Eating lots of them can cause gastrointestinal distress for people"1.

What type of intestinal distress can these specific carbohydrates cause? Onions and garlic can cause inflammation and affect conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, and more which results in symptoms like gas, bloating, and worse. Some nutritionists believe "Sometimes just taking out onion and garlic is enough to manage symptoms."2

How can we reduce onions or garlic from foods?

Often people suffering from onion or garlic intolerance can switch to an onion or garlic-infused oil or switch to a low FODMAP onion and garlic powder.

Garden of Vegan offers N.O.N.G. dishes!

Yes, every month we offer N.O.N.G. dishes. We clearly label them as N.O.N.G. in the upper left of the dish photos to specify they are considered N.O.N.G. We create these tasty dishes without using onions and garlic, but we don't ignore flavor, And yes, these N.O.N.G. dishes are tasty!
